We Need to Talk About Ableism in the LGBT+ Community
I started to write this on the train home from the National Union of Students (NUS) LGBT+ Conference, a conference where access needs were repeatedly ignored, the catering was sub-par at best, and a motion was submitted that listed disabilities as flaws, and disabled LGBT+ people as “followers” of the cause. I am exhausted, but it’s fresh in my head.

Selling My Body?
We've all heard the stories of college kids selling plasma to make ends meet; well people, that's my story. Unfortunately, my part time job wasn't cutting it when it came to rent, tuition, groceries, and gas; oh the fun life of an adult! Anyway, I thought I'd at least check out the plasma center and see if it was worth it. My first impression was that the place was a little run down. The building it was located in was a little old with a crumbling parking lot. However, once inside everyone was super professional, certified, and hard working.

Deaf Girl in a Noisy World
Hey! Welcome back to another rambling post of mine... As I'm writing this, it is 2:30 AM on a Friday morning. Unfortunately, I'm still suffering from shingles and up late thinking about creative and educational things to share! A big part of my life is being deaf but like many deaf and hard of hearing people I live and work in a predominantly hearing world. A lot of people ask me "What's that like?" and for me, I feel like I'm stuck in between two worlds and I don't really belong in either.

Let There Be Light
The place was akin to a terrestrial purgatory. When I eventually gained the courage to trudge up to the abandoned reception desk and shakily sign my name and the time in a binder with crumpled pages, I shivered under the atmosphere that enveloped me. There was some semblance of peace in the quiet, but I was also greeted by icy tendrils of despair.

How Cancer Took Over
I was 13 years old when I found out that my dad was sick. Every day it was constantly going to doctor's appointments, getting him what he needed, etc. At first, I didn't think it would be so bad because he was so strong and told my sister and I that he was going to be okay. As months went by, he started to get worse. He went to the hospital more and was in home hospice for a good week and a half. There was never a time I couldn't stop crying in my room. I don't know what it was, I guess I was afraid to see him so sick. He died on February 17, 2014, from Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer.
