The doctor handed Jade a prescription and wished him good luck before letting him go. As Jade exited the hospital, he found his mother waiting outside with an unfamiliar woman. "Hello Mom, hello Madame," Jade greeted them. Faty, his mother, asked how the appointment went and then introduced the woman standing beside her. "Jade, this is Madame Hayley, and she's a psychic," she announced. Taken aback, Jade

Oleksandr und Mavrin
In those accursed days when the sky itself seemed to have turned Russian and was spitting iron on the black earth of Donbas, Oleksandr marched with the rest of his platoon like a man already half-dead. The war had eaten everything gentle in him. Only the memory of Andriy still burned--Andriy with his quick laugh, his crooked front tooth, the way he used to press his cold nose into Oleksandr's neck at night and whisper, "We'll live through this, Sashko. We'll go to Lviv and open a stupid little café and forget all this blood."

Amongst Us
The alarm sounded at 5:30 AM with a soft bell. It was quiet—only about 15 decibels, slightly higher than the sound of human breathing. You wouldn’t think it was loud enough to be heard. No one else was disturbed by it. But 15 decibels were all it took to awaken Malissa.

LHS Class of 01 Reunion '16
“It’s funny, isn’t it? The way we think we’re the mentors, when sometimes the students end up being the teachers.” Emily laughed, a short, relieved sound that seemed to lift a weight she hadn’t known she was still carrying. The conversation spun forward, weaving together past struggles and future dreams, each sentence a stitch in the tapestry of their shared history.

The next day, Emily slipped into the red‑leather booth of Mae’s Diner just as the early afternoon sun began to spill through the slatted windows, painting the checkered tablecloth in amber. The scent of fresh‑baked biscuits mingled with the faint hum of a jukebox playing an old country ballad, and she could feel the familiar thrum of the diner's worn‑in rhythm beneath her nerves. When Mrs. Wilkes arrived, her silver hair tucked neatly beneath a pastel cardigan, Emily’s heart gave an involuntary lift; the woman’s presence had always seemed to carry a quiet gravity, a calm that steadied the stormy days that followed the tumult at Lincoln High. “I’m glad you could make it, Mrs. Wilkes,” Emily said, her voice a little breathless, “I’ve been looking forward to this all week.” The two women exchanged a smile that was half‑hearted but sincere, and for a moment the diner's clatter faded into a backdrop for the conversation that was about to unfold.

“When I first saw you stumble over the quadratic formula, I never imagined you’d be the one standing here, confident, ready to take on the world. Remember, retirement is not an end but a transition, a chance to apply the lessons you’ve learned in new ways.” She paused, her gaze lingering on the distant highway visible through the diner's glass door, and then added, “I hope you’ll visit me, perhaps bring a fresh batch of your famous cinnamon rolls.”

NOVUS - An Echo of Whispers
The jetties lobby is a cacophony of stubborn individuals arguing and shouting amongst the blaring sound of the emergency sirens. The displaywrap, a micro thin photon emitting screen that wraps every wall, floor and ceiling is no longer an on-demand screen access, sign board, information portal, light source or even a canvas to show draw-dropping landscapes. Instead, red arrows and pulsing lights flow orderly along the floors and walls towards the emergency exits. “For fucksake, I can’t even hear myself think!” The local sirens seize and the displaywrap resets itself at command from William’s thinkpiece. “Everyone!” he shouts. “Either go home or get out of sight!”

NOVUS - An Echo of Whispers
The atmosphere within the cabin is surprisingly still. Wvyman and his mercenaries stood rock steady as if it is just another regular day. Just another exercise that Wvyman would put them through on a routinely basis. Even Agna seemed to maintain a sense of ease as she cradles Tassy with both arms in an attempt to stop her from chewing an exposed strap draping down from a storage unit. But William found himself continuing to ponder, it didn’t make sense. Why are they here of all places? What do they want? Perhaps it was one of the refugees. Perhaps one of them is a prominent Union official that had managed to flee. “Wvyman. You said it’s the same forces that attacked Ceres, how many?”
