He Killed Her
I guess he didn’t realize that I’d heard him when he said it, so he just kept rambling on, but I heard him. He’d just confessed to the crime and didn’t even know it. I shifted my stance as I glanced away looking at the man in the window at the nearby McDonald’s. He nodded. He heard him too. Good, we had everything we needed then.

Cold Coffee
FIVE YEARS PAST “Hey Trudy, come on down and guard the shower for me ok?” Dana asked her roommate. “Girl, I’m watching tv! Can’t you go on your own just once?” Trudy had grown impatient with these requests, she had to stay and make sure no one went into the shower area when Dana was in there. Dana’s Iowa farm upbringing didn’t prepare her for life in a large dorm with an open shower and bath area. Dana was uncomfortable about being nude in front of others so she showered late at night.

Rape
My eyes flickered open like a light switch. My hand curled around something soft and fluffy, looking down I see a pillow. My senses register that the soft material below me is a bed. I begin to search the room in blind confusion, then it dawns on me. I’m in someone’s bedroom and I shouldn’t be. Courtney and I were at Dianna’s then we left and went clubbing at her cousins’ bar down town. We didn’t drink, Dianna made sure of that herself. Wait, where is—

Lydia
Lydia I picked Lydia up at 7:00 PM sharp. We rode in silence for the duration of the twenty-minute drive to the designated spot: the luxurious estate of our boss, the esteemed Mr. Beverly Hoult. His two-story home was nestled picturesquely into the mountainside. Parking in front of the house directly across the street, as she instructed, we could clearly see into the great dining room through the expansive front window of the lower level.

Adam Raised a Cain
The wipers moved with concerning ferocity, urging away the plummeting rain, determined to keep the windshield clear, even if it meant sacrificing themselves in doing so. The rain had been continuous, relentless, for fifty miles. Victor drove in silence, too preoccupied with keeping the worst from his mind to bother with the radio. He sighed and rolled a cigarette with his right hand, an art he had been practicing since his fifteenth birthday when his own father had continued the tradition of parental negligence. Victor had no patience for any tobacco that wasn’t whole leaf. He put the cigarette in the corner of his mouth and chewed the end without lighting it. Victor was in the third month of quitting tobacco products, though he no longer inhaled smoke, the taste of it was something he would never give up.

Loving the Loveless Pt. 7
August 27, 2018 at 4:00pm MUSC, Charleston, SC Detective Derek Kyle He stood outside Brianna's private hospital room watching Dr. Sebastian Kane talk with her. For all that the doctor had blown into the trauma ward with all the force of a hurricane in human form, Brianna hadn't seemed afraid of him which was odd because everyone else on the floor seemed to avoid making so much as accidental eye contact with him. Everyone from police officers to civilians visiting loved ones gave Dr. Kane a wide berth that wasn't entirely born of fear or the look of murder he'd had when he'd arrived before he'd seen Brianna was alive with his own eyes.

The Secret of Iris (Pt. 3)
The first weeks of my time at SJCF was a whirlwind. Learning how to adapt to a new home and lifestyle is always challenging, but especially for a four-year-old. Kaylee and Megan guided me through everything I faced. I first encountered bullies during free-time around the TV, the showers, getting places, and basically anywhere. I picked up on it after some time, but there were my guide dogs. The only person that I connected with besides them was my counselor, Ms. Haleigh. She didn't need me to talk often, which I appreciated. She just wanted the best for me and helped me with anything emotionally. I had my group of people, and they were always there for me, even in the hard times.
