Prairie Smoke
and a surreal poem
I would kill every iteration of myself from now to eternity
If it meant watching your lips move around the sound of my name.
I would take lightning straight to the chest and smile if I could just...
See what it would look like if the world went according to plan.

What sort of madness is it when I resort to pulling out pieces of myself
As though they are splinters, hindrances to my concept of a soul?
A madness of the heart, the plaguing sort of thing that haunts cemeteries
And clusters along church fences where it doesn't belong.
.
This existential loneliness is a disease that love can't cure and I'm dying.
The sun has set this field on fire, but the grass doesn't know it burns.
It simply opens its arms to the destruction and tastes the glory of smoke.
And I'm that way too, aren't I, waiting for one good strike of lightning.

Those first two lines are such attention grabbers in how intense and deeply passionate they are, and the rest of the poem absolutely matches them! This was absolutely gorgeous. I loved how vivid it all was; it was like taking a peek into your very soul. Amazing work, and congrats on top story!!

Your play on words evoke sad emotions yet there is power behind each line that give the reader strength. This poem can be viewed in many different ways and interpreted to revolve around one’s personal life as it exist now.

Yes, but the lightning would be a power surge instead of the sun warming you out of your loneliness into destruction. I get that. It's not the same. The energy is different. I get ennui from this and frustration more than loneliness. It's more like a lack of understanding shown.by those blades of grass. Don't they see what the sun is doing? I'd rather a bolt from the blue.

As ever, surreal as fuck, but grounded in a very real world. This feels like some kind of messed up ode or love poem to someone or something. Maybe someone or something, no one should really love. Because that's the people we often fall for. Or...I could be talking out my arsehole lol. Either way, this was as evocative as you've ever been. And I love the almost meandering offhanded conversational vibe mixed with the grandiose sentiments of the metaphors and descriptions. You are just on another level, my friend!
