Longing That Will Not Rest

I love you so much and more each day

Longing That Will Not Rest

I carry you in places no one sees,

in the quiet fold between each breath,

in the hush before the morning wakes,

and the stillness that follows rest.

There is a weight to wanting you,

not heavy, yet it will not leave,

it sits with me through every hour,

a quiet ache I still believe.

I have tried to fill my days with noise,

to turn my thoughts to simpler things,

yet every path leads back to you,

as though my heart is pulled by strings.

What is this hold you have on me,

this gentle hurt that lingers on,

why does your name stay close to mine,

long after all the days are gone.

I see you in the smallest light,

in shadows resting on the wall,

in every place I dare to pause,

and in the space between it all.

If I could gather all of this,

these restless thoughts I cannot still,

I would place them in your hands,

and leave them there against my will.

And still I stay within this pull,

not lost, not whole, but something true,

for even in this tender ache,

I would not choose a world without you.

So let me keep this longing close,

do not ask me to let it go,

for love like this, though never held,

is all I have, and all I know.
